Join NAIOP for a Behind the Scenes Tour of the University of Cincinnati Block One development.
The University of Cincinnati is currently building its most ambitious student housing development to date. Known as UC Blocks 1 & 2, the $326 million project started construction in late summer 2024 summer and will deliver a 1,310-bed student housing complex slated to open in time for the 2027-28 academic year.
Designed by William Rawn Associates and Ratio Architects, the 546,606 square feet development will feature four distinctive buildings. Three interconnected structures on the eastern block will include a 20,000-square-foot recreation center and a ground-level common space, while a fourth building will rise on the smaller, western block. The residences will feature modern suites along with a variety of shared amenities including courtyards, community kitchens, study lounges, fitness centers, a multipurpose room, and a rooftop terrace.
The design reflects the character of the Clifton Heights neighborhood with varied building forms, heights ranging from five to 12 stories, and a mix of exterior materials including brick, glass, terracotta, metal, and precast concrete. An indoor parking garage with 200 spaces will be built into the hillside on Block 1, and a police safety substation will be integrated into the development in partnership with the Clifton Heights community.
Key Notes for the tour:
- Since the tour groups are so large, everyone must bring their own PPE (hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and vests) for the tour. Hard hats are essential/required, and safety glasses, gloves, and vests are highly recommended. Turner Construction only has (10) sets of visitor PPE on site.
- Everyone MUST wear long pants and hard-soled, closed-toe shoes. No exceptions.
